Taking Pleasure Seriously

Israel : Maskit Mansion – Get Indulged In Pleasure

For me, birthdays are a real big issue.

While in the past I celebrated my birthdays in a normative way – one-day celebrations, in the last few years I decided that there’s no reason not to extend the celebrations to at least a week.

I mean, why not? You only live once {YOLO!!} and if there’s a reason to celebrate, I think you need to take full advantage of it!

Since I met Daniel, he got the tough job of planning my birthday. He’s already used to me reminding him around half a year before my birthday to start planning and I nudge him once every few weeks just to make sure that he’s really working on it.

The beginning wasn’t great and he wasn’t always spot-on with my taste, but over the years he got to know me even better than I know myself and during the last years he managed to surprise me every time.

For my last birthday he planned the most perfect vacation in Greece, where he proposed to me in an extremely romantic place, and we both thought that he wouldn’t be able to top that birthday.

It was so much fun to discover that we were wrong about that.

So we didn’t leave the borders of our small country Israel this year, and the birthday celebrations consisted all kinds of experiences and small gifts – meals at great restaurants, a fun and pampering day {with a lot of shopping} with my mom, a custom-made ring Daniel ordered with HEDONISTIT logo {it’s perfect – I promise to take a picture of it soon and upload it on Instagram!} and two nights at the beautiful Maskit Mansion, which was definitely the highlight of the celebrations.

The Maskit Mansion is really not a typical B & B and is not just a boutique hotel either. Just as implied by its name – is a mansion in every respect.

There’s a special charm there that doesn’t exist in many other places, especially not in Israel, and it’s overflowing with a sense of luxury, intimacy and deep peace.

Just the place to finish off my birthday celebrations.

I’m so happy to share with you my experience from this amazing place, I just hope I didn’t exaggerate with all of the photos – this place is so beautiful I just couldn’t stop taking pictures!

Let’s cut to the chase – here are all of the things you should know about Maskit Mansion

THE LOCATION

The north is my favorite area in Israel when it comes to “recharging” vacations – the green landscape, the calm atmosphere and the Galilean food automatically make we want to switch gears and devote myself to all of the good things this area has to offer.

Maskit’s located in Liman, on the Northwestern coast, near the national park Achziv and the reserve Rosh Hanikra, is truly ideal.

It’s not too far from the center {around an hour and a half from Tel Aviv if you manage to avoid traffic}, but far enough to get away from the busy city and connect to the atmosphere in the North.

Those who like trips will enjoy the attractions in the area, but we chose not to leave this dreamy place until checkout time.

THE DESIGN

What’s the first image that comes to your mind when you think of a mansion?

If you could sum it up in one word it will most likely be “luxury”.

As opposed to many guest complexes, B & B’s and hotels with names that raise connotations of prestige – the Maskit Mansion manages to maintain the high standard of the adjective it chose for itself and they offer their guests a magical fairytale vacation.

Maskit’s design manages to create an intensifying experience – nothing is in sight all at once. Every step inside reveals new areas of the mansion.

This experience is felt from the moment you walk in – a big, heavy gate, with an antique look opens slowly and reveals a path surrounded by plants which leads to the mansion. At the end, a private parking area for the hotel’s guests is revealed and the entrance to the mansion is a gate with greenery, and is long and blooming which leads into the complex, which eventually leads to the lounge and the pool area which is completely surrounded by blooming plants and flowers.

We discovered the other areas of the mansion gradually only later on in a tour especially for us.

The design theme that characterizes the Maskit Mansion is romantic European from the beginning of the 20th century combined with elements from the nature which are reflected in all of the mansion’s buildings in the form of furniture or special accessories which seemed manufactured especially for the mansion or were bought overseas.

THE SERVICE AND THE ATMOSPHERE

The atmosphere in the mansion is very calm and is connected to nature, and yet is very luxurious and high quality.

I think that the most precise description I could give it is something between magical Tuscan villas and those in Southern France.

Romantic and magical.

Besides the beautiful design of the buildings and the gardens of the mansion, the pleasant music playing at the perfect volume all around the estate {don’t worry – it’s not elevator music} and the excellent food {which we’ll get to later}, one of the things that influenced the atmosphere most was undoubtedly the service and the treatment.

The service at the mansion is pleasant from the second the reservation is made, continues a few days before your arrival as an e-mail that prepared us for all of this good stuff : “all that’s left is to pack your suitcase… waiting for you with love!” and is accompanies your whole stay there.

The charming Sarit, one of the owners, and the rest of the staff made sure to spoil us with warmth and professionalism and provided us with the most perfect vacation we could have dreamed of.

THE SUITE

The Maskit mansion has 4 huge and luxurious suites that are separated from each other in a way that provides all of the guests with complete privacy.

I really loved the concept of the suites, that were recently renovated and upgraded and each was designed in a different way and dedicated to ambitious and fascinating women from the beginning of the 20th century. #GoGirls

We got suite number 3, called the Jane suite that’s dedicated to the big travel diaries of the romantic period, and the creative character of Jane Emerson, an intellectual and graceful writer, who described her travels in the Mediterranean countries in six elegant volumes.

The suite is designed carefully down to the smallest details and includes unique furniture – a pampering king size bed with high quality sheets with a big window overlooking a tropical garden that’s hidden in the back of the suite, a huge television with a surround sound system and excellent wi-fi, a beautiful fireplace and a corner with a NESSPRESO machine and a milk frother, a mini bar and a wine cooler {both an additional charge} and a variety of gorgeous crystal glasses that will suit any drink you desire.

The suite’s bathroom is everything you could dream of, and more – a large rain shower, a double vanity, a huge mirror, luxurious bath robes, a towel heater {!!!], an excellent hair dryer and beauty products from the fabulous company, L’OCCITAN. Oh yes, and the floor is heated, too

If all of these treats aren’t enough for you, when they redecorated, they switched the traditional Jacuzzis with an outdoor rain shower under the stars, surrounded by the tropical garden in the back. Could it get more perfect? Took me back to the luxurious places in Thailand.

Like I already mentioned, the design there combines a romantic European style with nature around the mansion, and this element is felt in the suite – besides the tropical garden in the back of the room, the entrance to each suite is through a big private garden which includes a deck with a cozy seating area that’s surrounded with a blooming garden with perfect privacy even if you want to sit outside and feel right at home.

The downside of all the plants was a huge flying cockroach Daniel had to kill during the night and super annoying bug bites.

Luckily I brought my Tiger Balm with me.

HOTEL FACILITIES

The picturesque mansion spreads over green gardens, various blooming plants, olive and fruit trees and herbs that surround all of the mansion buildings. Besides the 4 luxurious suites, the mansion has two pools, one outdoors and one indoors – which is also used for water treatments and is perfect for a night swim, a dry Finnish sauna and a treatment room for two where they offer various massages {including one with olive oil!} from a list of treatments offered there.

The charming lounge is located on the edge of the pool, decorated with an elegant and fancy European touch, and is used as the front desk, dining room and living room. It’s equipped with a coffee and tea stand which is open 24/7, comfortable couches for lounging around and tables for two, a big knight’s table, and a seating area outdoors that overlooks the pool where it’s fun to eat breakfast on pleasant days.

Besides all of these, the estate offers its guests bikes to ride around the area.

BREAKFAST

I’ll describe the food served at Maskit in one word – perfection.

If you had a chance to read my review about the Gordonia Private Hotel, you probably know how much the culinary aspect is important in my vacations – especially in luxurious and expensive places.

If the food there was the hotel’s Achilles heel, at the Maskit mansion it’s one of the elements that makes this vacation even more perfect.

1

At Maskit you won’t find a buffet breakfast, after all it’s not just a regular hotel – it’s a luxurious mansion that treats guests with various dishes which aren’t just plated well, but are refreshing, interesting and super tasty.

They use the best products according to the seasons of the year, and some are based on the local organic produce from the mansion’s garden {there are also hand-made grape leaves in season!}.

Breakfast is served at 9:30 in the estate’s lounge, at the lounge’s balcony by the pool and even to your suite if you don’t feel like getting out of your pajamas.

1

We stayed at the mansion for 2 nights and we enjoyed 2 very diverse breakfasts – on the first morning we got omelets of our choice and on the second morning we got boiling green shakshuka; during both meals our table was filled with a puzzle of excellent muesli, different types of bread, a large variety of salads and pastries for dessert.

The beverages are free and you could order different kinds of coffee, tea from the garden, chocolate milk and cold beverages. The only disadvantage was that they didn’t have any freshly squeezed juices.

DINNER

Just like breakfast, the chef’s meal we were invited to in the evening wasn’t anything less than fabulous.

We opened our appetite with the wonderful house wine – “Tel-Fars Maskit”, an excellent blend that was made especially for the mansion guests along with a boutique winery in the Galil.

1

We got to enjoy a private gourmet meal under the direction of the local chef Itzik Ben Aharon {Mul Hayam, Refael, Bistro Michael} which consisted a bread platter including an amazing focaccia with fresh satureja that was served straight out of the oven along with seasoned local olives, burnt eggplant cream {the best I ever tasted!}, a rich tomato cream, a spicy tomato salad and a pickled lemon spread {I don’t even like pickled lemons but this was excellent}.

1

Right after we devoured the first round, they served Artichoke A-la Romana, beef fillet carpaccio and wild asparagus stir-fried with butter and lemon.

1

For the middle course, they served fried barracudas along with labane and tomatoes. I’m not really into dishes that look at me but Daniel said it was excellent.

1

Lamb chops on Jerusalem artichoke cream, aged and roasted sirloin on lentil Firiki and sea bass fillet “aqua pacha” with tomatoes and olives were served as the main course and they were precise and very tasty.

1

And to top it off, we ate homemade baklava straight out of the oven which was delicious.

1

As I’m telling you about all of the dishes, I’m realizing how much food we ate that night! Since everything was so good, we didn’t stop eating. Even the chef was surprised we managed to eat this whole crazy meal.

And yes, the dishes are just as good as they look in the pictures here.

{Chef’s meals at Maskit are an additional charged and have to be ordered in advance}.

THE PRICE

A luxurious vacation like this in Israel is priced relatively high on the scale {prices change according to the seasons, mid-week and weekends}, just like staying at other luxurious hotels in Israel like “Bereshit”, “Royal Beach Tel Aviv” and the “Gordonia Private Hotel”, but it’s definitely worth the money.

If you want to celebrate a special event like royals or if you just want to go on a super pampering vacation and you don’t want to compromise on anything – this is the place for you.

The manshion also offers a perfect wedding package for your wedding day at a special price – so if you liked the place you should really call and get all of the details.
