For your blog to have a strong foundation you first need to start your own independent blog. Yup, Instagram and Facebook are nice, and a free blog isn't necessarily bad either – but if you want to make your blog a business in the future, those things just aren't for you.
Whether your dreaming of becoming a successful blogger, or you have a small business that you dream of developing, you must have an independent digital platform, which you have full control over.
I can’t argue with the fact that, today, social media is a necessary tool for keeping a blog or a successful and profitable business. They strengthen the brand, connect you to the community, allow you to share behind-the-scenes footage, and create traffic to your blog or business website. But they have one very big drawback, even huge – you have no control over them. You don't own Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest or any other social network, so even though you spend a lot of time creating quality content to use on social networks, and maybe even reach a good number of followers, most of your followers won't even be exposed to updates on new content you post.
Bottom line – social media is a tool worth using for branding, but it is by no means a proper replacement for an independent blog.
