Concept-based restaurants and cafes have existed for many, many years, but it seems that in recent years, mainly thanks to the reign of social media and its help in branding and marketing businesses, the phenomenon keeps growing by the minute, and concept restaurants are popping up like mushrooms after the rain all over the world. The new concept restaurants put the emphasis not only on a unified menu, on the star ingredient or on a method of preparation, but also, and mainly, on how the place looks on social media. I gathered a collection of some especially cool themed cafes and restaurants from around the world…

The Avocado Restaurant in Amsterdam
The Avocado Show is without a doubt the ultimate dream come true for every avocado lover {so basically everyone, right? 🙂 }. The restaurant, which is entirely dedicated to the green fruit, serves a dizzying variety of dishes. From the photogenic avocado toast that has been flooding our Insta feeds in recent years, through a burger in an avocado “bun” and green smoothies, to especially surprising desserts like avocado, chocolate and banana mousse. By the way, it is not just the dishes that are insanely photogenic, the restaurant itself is super branded and cool.
A funny anecdote about my experience with the restaurant: I visited Amsterdam when a video about this new restaurant went insanely viral on Facebook, so of course I had to get there myself. Right at the beginning of the trip, Daniel and I made our way to this restaurant only to discover that despite the huge hype around it on Facebook at the time, it had not even opened yet! Its opening was just a few days after we left the city… So I have not been there yet, but it is still totally in the plan! 🙂
A Matcha Cafe in New York
Japanese matcha tea, considered the highest-quality green tea, has become an especially beloved superfood in the Western world in recent years thanks to its health benefits, and no less important, because it photographs really well for Instagram 🙂 Its greenish color has been decorating the feed of every foodie in the world, and countless articles have been written in recent years about its health benefits and ways to incorporate it into a daily menu.
The New York cafe Cha Cha Matcha, which seems as if it was created especially for Instagram lovers, jumped on this hot trend and is entirely dedicated to matcha, with its flagship product being the matcha latte, a hybrid drink combining an ancient Japanese tradition with a popular Italian icon. The Instagrammable cafe is designed entirely in matcha's green colors alongside millennial pink, a pinkish shade that is also especially popular on Instagram.
A Cat Cafe in Bangkok
The concept of cat cafes can sound a little strange at first, but like a great many crazy things invented in Japan, this invention too borders on genius. Because the Japanese live in tiny apartments with no room for pets, a cat cafe allows them to enjoy the company of cats and ease their loneliness, and along the way also enjoy tasty food.
I was first exposed to the phenomenon of cat cafes when I watched the series “Girls”, and I decided I had to add a visit to one of these cafes to my bucket list! The cat cafe concept has spread all across Asia and to several Western cities around the world, and I managed to check off a visit to the Caturday Cat Café in Bangkok, when my husband and I flew to Thailand last year {to read about more cool things to do in Bangkok click here}.
This cafe is simply heaven for cat lovers. It has dozens of beautiful, well-groomed cats roaming freely in a sweet space designed entirely with cat motifs, a small souvenir shop offering especially cat-centric merchandise, and a menu with particularly tasty things.
