Beauty on the road : 3 makeup products for traveling

Summer is here and the vacation season officially started – Yay!!

All of you makeup addicts are familiar with this – you pack your suitcase and take only the things you’re certain you’ll want to wear during your vacation {who am I fooling, and a few backup outfits, too }. You are trying to save room and weight for shopping, and doing your best to avoid overweight luggage on the flight back. And then you get to the crucial moment – you put your makeup bag and your toiletries bag into your suitcase.

That’s where the packing gets a bit tricky…

I think that my makeup bag and toiletries bag alone weigh around 3 and a half kilos

What are you supposed to do in this situation? How do you decide what to take and what to leave behind?

After all, when you go on vacation you want to look at your best and the last thing you want to think about is giving up on your makeup or beauty products due to weight concerns.

Beauty On The Road

In the following post series in the Beauty category, I decided to check a few traveling products I was curious about, and I’m sure that they will interest you, too

The first post in the series, for which we gathered here today, is about three makeup products designed specifically for traveling, in the way they are packaged and how convenient their use is.

ESTEE LAUDER – DOUBLE WEAR MAKEUP TO GO LIQUID COMPACT

Estée Lauder’s mythological double-wear foundation is well known among makeup lovers and is considered one of the best and long-lasting foundations in the market.

Recently, a new product* was launched in Israel from the company’s Double Wear series – that was defined by the company as “your favorite double-wear foundation in a compact version you could take anywhere, suitable for traveling and keeps the makeup fresh. 8 hours of durability with just one press!”.

If you’re familiar with this foundation, you’ve probably noticed that the new version isn’t as long-lasting {8 hours compared to 15 hours!}, which makes me question the connection of this product to the double wear series which is supposed to include very durable products.

From the company’s advertisements, it’s quite fallacious that it’s the same product in a “to-go” version. However, it’s actually a new formula with a triple moisturizing complex that includes hyaluronic acid, glycerin and murumuru butter which immediately hydrates the skin and gives it a glowing look.

The original double-wear makeup feels a bit dry on the skin, and you need to use a rich moisturizer cream to avoid the “flaky” look, and that’s why I think it may be better for oily skin. In contrast to that, the “to-go” version is full if intense moisture and gives your skin a bit of a shiny look and that’s why I think it’s better for dry skin {and less for oily skin}.

In addition, the new formula includes Argireline and Silybum marianum which help minimize and hide wrinkles – so it’s ideal for older skin.

This product’s biggest advantage is undoubtedly its unique patented packaging. It’s just perfect for traveling!

If until now you were scared about packing your liquid makeup in your bag or suitcase, this product will remove all of your concerns.

This product’s black, classic and relatively small {contains 12 ml} plastic packaging, also comes with a mirror and a small sponge, and the best part is of course the little button that releases a little foundation each time you press it – so you can really use it anywhere.

In my opinion, this product is excellent for flights, not only because of its convenient packaging, but because it’s a rich moisturizer {and it’s known that flights dry up your skin like a motherfucker }.

This foundation comes in six shades in Israel {abroad you can find around 20 different shades!}, and it costs 288 NIS.

{I use shade 3N1 IVORY BEIGE}

MAC – ALL THE RIGHT ANGLES CONTOUR PALETTE

The second product I ordered to review* was a contour kit for sculpting and shading including a velvety base cream and powders for sculpting by MAC.

This is a compact kit which brings three of the company’s products together which you could buy individually, too:

On the kit’s upper surface there are two different powders, on the right – a sculpting powder, and on the left – a shaping powder.

The sculpting powder is a powder with a transparent-matt finish, which creates shadows with a natural and soft look. It allows gradually building-up the shadows so it’s good for those of you seeking a bolder bone structure too.

The shaping powder comes in lighter shades compared to the sculpting powder, and it consists of small reflective particles which create depth and dimensionality which highlight the higher parts of the face. This powder also comes with a transparent finish but it could be built-up as well.

Both powders are moderately pigmented and I actually like it, because it allows you to create a gentle contouring look for the morning and to build it up to a more sculpted look for the evening.

On the bottom surface that’s exposed when you move the top powders aside, there’s a base cream which is actually a 3-in-1 product {multipurpose product in a multipurpose product } – the cream gives your face a bright finish and you can place it on your eyelids, lips and cheeks with a sponge, a brush or even with your fingers.

You can use this cream right before you apply your makeup {for a more subtle look} or after applying your makeup or foundation {for a brighter look} without creating a cakey look.

It lasted a very long time and stood out all day long

There’s no doubt that this product is packaged well for traveling – most contouring kits are too big and contain a lot of shades for shadowing and illuminating {which are usually more suitable for professional makeup artists than ordinary women who don’t need so many shades}.

This kit comes in four shades {light, medium, medium-dark, and dark}, and it costs 250 NIS.

MAC – EYE SHADOW X 9: AMBER TIMES NINE

The last makeup product I ordered* to review was a small eyeshadow palette by MAC which includes 9 shades of eyeshadows which allow countless combinations to create makeup looks for both day and night.

In this series of small palettes you can find 9 different color schemes – I chose to review the one called “Amber Times” since it has a lot of beautiful nude shades and can be the base for neutral and gentle eye makeup during the day and for creating an amazing and shimmery look for the evening.

It’s very rare to find an eyeshadow palette with a relatively large variety of shades and still find use for each of them, and I was happy to discover that this palette completely does the job for me.

In my opinion, the eyeshadows are relatively highly pigmented {especially if you place them on a primer} and you could build it up as much as you like.

Additionally, when you use it with a primer it’s super durable.

As a traveling palette it’s great. It’s certainly not cheap {like all MAC products} but it totally gives you a good value for your money – it’s compact and very versatile since it combines eyeshadows in different textures {matte, satin and shimmery}.

If you’re also looking for a neutral eyeshadow palette for traveling – this is undoubtedly the one for you!

The palette costs 231 NIS.
