At the very beginning of the year, BOBBI BROWN launched a new mascara claiming to be the most dramatic one out yet.
We all know these promises already – every time a new mascara comes out to the market, whether it's cheap or expensive, they keep promising the same things over and over again – the best one for curling, thickening, lengthening and – well, you could fill in the blank yourself…
Honestly, I always fall into their traps.
Commercials for mascara really manage to convince me that “I need this product in my makeup bag – NOW!”, even though I know very well that even if the mascara is really good – it won’t knock me off my feet like the commercial did…
The only mascara I really fell in love with until now was MAC’s Haute & Naughty, but I've also used a few mascaras by drugstore brands that managed to give my lashes a natural everyday look.
Anyway, a few weeks ago I received the Bobby Brown’s Eye Opening Mascara to review and they promise this product will give users curled, long, and thick lashes for the most beautiful eyes-wide-open look by applying just several layers.
So many promises for one mascara? I just had to check it out!
Packaging
From the photos you can’t tell the beauty of this packaging, that got me all excited about this mascara before I even tried it {well, ok, I’m a sucker for branding 😉 }.
Like all of BOBBI BROWN’s products, this new mascara also comes packaged in a prestigious and very classic way. The product itself is relatively large, but very light, with a clean design in matte black with minimalistic white writing.
Brush
There’s a reason they call it a jumbo brush – is really is much larger, thicker and massive than the brushes other mascaras have.
It manages to spread the lashes and reaches each and every lash without having to zig-zag and shake the brush, and gives a very dramatic look after applying 2-3 coats. Honestly – I was surprised.
However, I think the brush catches too much of the mascara {at least during the first few uses} and I prefer removing some before applying it – other than that, it’s an excellent brush and it’s very easy to use.
Formula
The mascara was creamy {just the right amount}, in a concentrated jet black shade, which allows building layers and creating dramatic volume and thickness, giving you long and flirtatious eyelashes – it almost looks like artificial eyelashes. However, I didn’t think it did a great job curling my lashes like I like them to be, and I couldn’t really give up on my eyelash curler like Bobby promised.
The second time I tried the mascara, after curling my eyelashes, I got a super dramatic look {so it’s not recommended if you’re looking for the more “natural” look}.
Durability
The mascara stayed on my lashes from the morning to the evening without smearing and without creating those dry and annoying mascara lumps.
Removal
On one hand – It’s not water-resistant, so it’s easy to remove even without makeup remover, using lukewarm water, without having to scratch or damage the sensitive skin around the eyes.
On the other hand – It’s not water-resistant, so it’s not great for the summer {beach, etc.} or for emotional events.
The bottom line –
This is a mascara that comes with many promises, and manages to almost completely fulfill them {except for the curling promise, which made me end up using my eyelash curler}.
This product isn’t cheap, but if you’re into very dominant eyelashes that almost look artificial, and you haven’t found the right mascara yet – then you should definitely give this one a chance.
Oh, and check out this amazing commercial for this mascara!
{I’m too addicted to makeup commercials – I think I need to go to rehab for this}
