The city of Frankfurt, Germany, has the image of a grim and not very interesting city, one that people usually only come to during a work trips to attand business conferences, or as a short stopover on the way to a more exciting destination in the world. If you're heading to Frankfurt and all you've heard about it is that it is a boring and balmy city – I'm sure this post will make you see Frankfurt with fresh eyes and count the minutes back until your trip.

I admit, when Daniel told me he was flying to Frankfurt for work, I thought twice about joining him. Although I have not visited it in the past, it is not exactly a desirable destination for tourist purposes… I was told that it was a pretty defiant city, nothing to do and to see, that in fact – it was just not worth the flight.

Then I remembered that I had just that kind of prejudice about a previous destination I had visited when I joined Daniel's work trip a few years ago – the city of Zurich, Switzerland. Like Frankfurt, Zurich is also a city that is not seen as particularly interesting or touristy, but surprisingly it turned out to be a lovely city that I was glad to return to again.

True, Frankfurt is not London, Paris or Rome, but the boring reputation that sticks to it is clearly unjustified. It has impressive skyscrapers, beautiful big green lungs, an amazing botanical garden, shopping and great food from different cuisines around the world.
