In order to celebrate Daniel and my first anniversary, we decided to return to where it all started.
More precisely, this isn't where we first met, but on the island where Daniel proposed to me almost two years ago – Crete.
On that amazing vacation, we didn't leave the hotel at all and spent most of our time sunbathing under the warm late September sun on the beach, drinking cocktails by the pool and non-stop eating. This time, we decided to arrange a different kind of vacation – the kind that includes hanging out in a bathing suit on the beach and beside the pool {because it's impossible not to… 🙂 } and also visiting the breathtaking beaches and the small towns and villages spread out over this huge island.
Honestly, I've been to the Greek islands over five times and only on this trip did I realize that I had been in Greece many times, but I had never really experienced everything Greece has to offer. The amazing ruins and fortresses, the cobblestone streets, the colorful houses, the spectacular beaches that are transparent with breathtaking colors and of course the weather and the wonderful Mediterranean cuisine.
The island of Crete is a unique destination and is only an hour and a half flight from Israel, making it a particularly attractive destination for us Israelis.
During our last vacation in Crete, which lasted about a full week, we had time to visit the eastern part of the island {Agios Nikolaos, Elounda, Plaka and Spinalonga} and also the northwest part of the island {Chania, Balos Beach and Seitan Limania beach}.
This post is a tiny taste of a series of posts about the island of Crete that will be uploaded this month on the blog – stay tuned!
What do you think about the island? Tell me in the comments! 🙂

Beautiful photos! Could you share the locations for each of these photos. Trying to plan our honeymoon and would love to visit these places.
Head over to my Crete archive to get the specific locations 🙂 Enjoy your trip sweetie!
Paul and I were married on Crete almost 46 yrs ago. He was stationed at Souda Bay with the navy and we were married in iraklion on the air force base (no longer there) we have friends that live just outside of Hania. So we have been back many times atleast every other year. It’s my most favorite place in all the world so I understand your feelings. Your Photos are great
Sounds perfect, Kathy! I really wanted to get married in Greece as well but it was too complicated for us…
Hello! My fiancé and I are planning to come to Crete for our honeymoon from the United StatesWhere do you recommend ? We have been to Santorini & Mykonos before and did a lot in only a few short days. This time we would like to relax and experience. Thanks so much
Greece is so beautiful and we enjoyed every island we’ve been to so far 🙂 I think that Crete is one of the biggest and most interesting islands, but Zakynthos is very nice too if you’re staying in a good hotel like this one.
