I have always wanted to visit Athens, and although I kept returning to Greece time after time, I was not able to make it to Athens until now.
As a little girl I traveled with my family to many resorts on Greek islands and wished, every time, that maybe for once we would give up the all-inclusive deal and make a tiny detour on the way to our tanning holiday. As you probably realized, that never happened because such deals are truly worthwhile, and frankly, most people want to reach their destination directly, without having to pass through the airport any more than necessary.
I get it. Daniel and I have vacationed together in Greece three times, and always chose the easy way of a direct flight to the final destination.
This time, we were invited to stay at the Lesante Blu Exclusive Beach Resort in Zakynthos, and when we discovered there is no direct flight to the island that matched our dates, we decided to jump at the opportunity and to finally pay a visit to one of the most ancient cities in the world.
You could say that the lack of a direct flight was one of the best parts of our trip. Thanks to it, we managed to combine an urban holiday with a European flavor with nature walks and the ultimate rest and relaxation at the resort. Best kind of lemonade 🙂
The capital of Greece, considered one of the most famous cultural and historical capitals in Europe, is a unique city. On the surface, it is very similar to other European cities, but the difference, and what makes it very special in my eyes, is that almost everywhere we went we encountered amazing ancient ruins, remnants of an ancient period that is the beginning of European democracy, ethics, logic and culture.
During the 48 hours we had in the city {the day before the flight to Zakynthos, and another day before returning to Israel}, we managed to walk around the city's modern streets and its picturesque, hidden alleys, we ate authentic Greek food and lots of pastries and sweets, visited the famous historical sites, and left with the feeling of room for more!
Athens has an infinite charm, and I look forward to the next visit, to find out more about this wonderful city. Very soon I will post a detailed travel guide for 48 hours in Athens, but until then -you are more than welcome to wash delve into 20 photos that will surely make you want to make a little detour on your next trip to Greece 🙂
