7 Reasons To Drink Water With Lemon Every Morning

Everyone who knows me knows that I’m trying very hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Healthy food {especially a lot of fruits and vegetables}, sports, plenty of water and 8 hours of sleep a night are just some habits I adopted over the years.

But I can’t say I’m completely innocent and guiltless – When I go out to good restaurants I won’t pass on ordering dessert {I’m telling you – I could hear the cake calling me from the other side of the room}, I love alcohol and sometimes I skip workouts {but that will be our little secret}. What can you do – no one’s perfect ☺

In general in life it all comes down to balance, ying and yang, a little good and a little bad.

So if you could improve your health with minimum effort it’s worth a try, right?

I started this wonderful habit of drinking room-temperature water with lemon over two years ago, after reading an article about natural ways to keep weight off and wrote about the greatness of lemons. It’s no secret that lemon is full of vitamins and other nutrients, but I don’t think people are aware of how a small change in their lifestyle can work wonders.

All you need is a good quality lemon squeezer, a large glass & warm water – it can't get more simple than that! ?

So how do you do it?

It’s very simple – Squeeze half a lemon in a large glass {I drink a pint} of warm water and drink it right after waking up.

You should try to avoid drinking cold or hot water because it takes your body more time to digest them, which causes unnecessary energy waste.

I always drink it while getting ready for work, but if you’re in a rush, you could always drink it from a large thermal cup 😉

Health Benefits :

1. Prevents high blood pressure –

The combination of the minerals in lemons, potassium, calcium and magnesium, plays an important role in controlling blood pressure. Therefore, drinking lemon water regularly helps the heart function properly.

2. “Activates” the digestion system –

Lemons can help many digestive problems when combined with hot water since it encourages the production of enzymes that are important for many different processes in the body, including digestion. The lemon helps the intestines with the waste disposal process from the body, and as a result helps prevent constipation, diarrhea, bloating and more. The lemon works as a cleaning agent in the liver, and helps produce the bile liquid needed for the digestion process.

3. Good for your teeth –

Lemon water also helps dental problems. Drinking lemon water may relieve tooth aches and can stop bleeding in cases of gingivitis. However, it’s important to keep in mind that it could cause damage to the enamel layer of the tooth, so it’s best to drink lemon water with a straw.

4. Helps you get healthy and radiant skin –

Lemon is a citrus fruit that’s rich in vitamin C, and in some B vitamins. The combination of these vitamins and antioxidants that are in lemons help clean the body from the inside and also contributes to the appearance of your hair and skin.

5. Helps weight loss –

When there are toxins in the body’s systems it’s very difficult to lose weight. Therefore, drinking lemon water for at least one week can lead to a lower percentage of toxins, reducing the desire for certain foods {like sugars and carbohydrates} – which leads to shedding pounds.

6. Raises energy levels –

Although lemon is very acidic, after digestion it gets absorbed in the body and changes from an acid to a base. When this happens, it causes an increase in energy levels, which also helps reduce anxiety and depression.

7. Detox –

Lemon is one of the foods that encourages the liver to excrete toxins stored there {just like other cruciferous vegetables}. The morning is the best time for a detox {Just like I mentioned before} since it’s the time of the day that the body is in its natural state of cleansing and the lemon water reinforces the cleansing and removes the toxins from the system.
