I can’t say that winter is my favorite.
On the other hand, I can’t say that I prefer the summer. {especially in Eilat where the temperature can reach 45 degrees!}.
If I had to choose a favorite season, it would definitely be spring.
But you know how it is – the spring is so short {especially here in Israel where the transitional seasons are hardly noticeable}, so I’m almost always longing for the next season.
Every year, a bit after the summer starts, I start wishing for the winter to come so I could curl up in bed with the stormy winter weather outside in the background, and the same with the winter which makes me dream about gorgeous summer days.
I’m sure I’m not the only one…. Even in this case you could say that the grass is always greener on the other side, and we always want what we don’t have instead of appreciating what we have right now.
This winter I promise to try and complain a bit less about the cold and look at the half-full cup of tea! {But don’t hold me by my word, because I love to complain – Daniel can attest }.
In honor of the first day of winter {and the shortest day of year!} which happens to be today, I decided to share all the things I didn’t want to move without during this winter season.
You know how it is – sharing is caring
HOT WATER BOTTLE
There’s a reason why I gave the good old hot water bottle first place – when I lived at my parents’ house this accessory was the holy grail of the winter!
The second the temperatures start to drop, my mother has a regular ritual of gathering all the hot water bottles from around the house and boils kettles one after the other to make sure that no one in the family will go to sleep in a cold bed.
On extremely cold days each one got two of these bottles to keep them warm throughout the night.
Today, in the apartment I live in with Daniel, sometimes I’m too lazy to fill my bottle and would rather catch my own fur ball, Charlie, who does a pretty good job keeping me warm
PAMPERING LOUNGEWEAR
During the winter people don’t really want to leave the house and it’s likely that you’ll use your loungewear a lot more often.
{And as a freelancer who works from home, I'm not ashamed to say that many times this loungewear turns into work clothing }
If in the summer I tend to just throw a tank top on which I stole from Daniel’s closet and walk around the house with the surprising side-boob now and then, during the winter I actually like to spend a little more and buy cozy pajamas from a comfy fabric.
Same goes with thick and warm socks {preferably ones with a particularly sweet print!} and large and bulky slippers.
TV BLANKET
Nothing is more important in winter than a super cuddly TV blanket while binge watching.
It’s better to get a pretty blanket because it’s going to star on your couch for a few months 😉
HERBAL TEA INFUSIONS
With all due respect to coffee and hot cocoa, my winter drink was always tea, or rather – herbal tea infusions.
Not only can you can drink them without restriction and without guilt {if you skip the sugar, of course}, there are so many options, each with different health benefits – so you can mix it up endlessly depending on your mood {and body} 😉
All that you’ll need to enjoy your tea break to the max is a huge {and cute!} mug, and if you’re really hardcore you should invest in a quality tea kettle!
COCONUT OIL
I don’t want to drive you nuts, because I’m sure you already realized that I have an obsession with this amazing product {as you’ve read here and here}, so I’ll only write briefly that despite how much I love experimenting with new beauty care products with different fragrances – the versatile product I always go back to is coconut oil.
Makeup remover, oil for the body and nails, hair mask and homemade lip-balm in one product with a divine coconut fragrance? Definitely a product I won’t skip during the dry winter.
The most important thing to notice when buying coconut oil is that it's raw 100% organic and cold pressed, like this one.
ANYTHING OVERSIZED
The keywords for my closet during this winter season is – Oversized EVERYTHING!
When it's cold, there's nothing more fun than drowning in a giant woolly sweater or sweatshirt that in certain positions manages to cover the whole body. Right?
By the way, this is also the season I especially like to peek over at the men’s sections in stores and adopt all the sweatshirts with cool prints {or exaggerated – depending on how you look at it} that most men here in Israel don’t dare to buy 😉
SCARF
I've always loved scarves, but I have a feeling that this winter my love will turn into an obsession!
Even before winter started, I managed to buy three new scarves and as they say – there’s always room for more {and I don’t want to know what will happen when the serious sales begin }.
Besides, I promised I wouldn’t complain about the cold as much and I’m almost certain that a good scarf can do the job 😉
DARK LIPSTICK
When it comes to makeup, my weak point is definitely lipsticks. My makeup bag is packed with dozens of lipsticks in different shades and kinds: liquid, matte, glossy and everything else.
During the summer I love pink shades and bright reds, but in the winter you’ll rarely catch me without dark lipstick on my lips – in much deeper and dramatic shades, depending on the season of course.
